Welcome to the 2019 MCMS Mustangs Track & Field season and thank you for your interest in our sport. Before anything takes place, there are certain requirements that the student athlete must progress through in order to practice or compete. Without both requirements met, student athletes will NOT be able to participate in tryouts. They are as follows:
TRYOUTS: We will hold tryouts for our team this year from Monday JAN 28 - Thursday JAN 31. Students will find out if they made the team on Friday, Feb 01. The team roster will be posted at each House Office on Friday morning. During tryouts, practice will be held at the MCMS Gym from 3:00 to 5:00. Please make sure that the student athlete is prepared for both outdoor and indoor weather. Pickup at the gym side door from 5:00 - 5:15. We will have 100+ student-athletes sign up for tryouts this year, and unfortunately, will not be able to keep everyone this season.
Bus information will be provided to each athlete on Monday, Feb 4th, by Mrs. Kimsey in House 1300.

AT THE MCHS TRACK: Practice will be held at the MCHS Track starting Wednesday, Feb 7th. Athletes will be bused to from MCMS to the MCHS Track everyday from now on. All athletes will need to be picked up at the MCHS Track at 5:00 - 5:15 PM. Please pick up the athletes at the "newest" TOP level parking lot, directly across the street from the BOE and OLD middle school building. If a ride home at this time from the track will be difficult, it may hinder the student athlete from competing with the team this year. Please ensure that the student athlete has a way home, as the coaches cannot take them home.
EVENTS: There are many running events for “sprinters”, but only 2 events for “long distance runners” with the option for some relays as well. The events in order are from the shortest distance to longest distance (measured in meters): 100, 100 hurdles, 200, 300, 400, 800 (2 laps) & 1600 (4 laps / 1 Mile). The 800 and 1600 are considered the distance events. There are also relays: 4x100 and 4x400; along with field events: high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put and discus. Due to the number of team members we are predicting, not everyone will have the opportunity to do all the events that they may want to compete in. Still, the 800 and 1600 are labeled “OPEN” which means we are allowed to have as many people run those events as we want. There will ALWAYS be an opportunity for a student athlete to compete in each Track & Field meet (except for an Invitational Meet), it just may not be the exact event they desired.
SCHEDULE: The schedule will be finalized by the end of Jan. We will pass out schedules the week of tryouts. Meets will mostly be during the month of March - maybe even a few in February. This is only an 8 week season!
PURCHASING CLOTHING: More information will become available (how to order / cost) after the final roster has been determined.
CONTACT: We understand that some life events cannot be rescheduled and take a priority to a sporting practice/event. With that, please contact Coach DeWolf regarding ALL absences, questions, comments or concerns - at anytime! Excessive absences from practices may result in that student athlete not being able to compete in the upcoming meet - or even removal from the team.

Weather & Clothing
Please be prepared for all weather conditions and temperatures. We will be inside AND outside starting Jan 29th. Although Track & Field is usually a spring and summer sport, Jan & Feb are winter months. Bring a sweatshirt and sweatpants to put on top of shorts and t-shirts. Dress Smart!
